New Ear:: SPATIAL is a series that focuses on spatial sound works, where the distribution and localization of sounds is a primary compositional parameter and a central feature for the listener. These works consider architectural, acoustical and technological factors in exploring the complex and dynamic relationship between sound and space. The formats are open and include contemporary sound experiments, electro-acoustic multi-channel composition, improvisation, non-traditional performance configurations, lowercase artistic presence, and workshops – all of which diverge from a fixed perspective on audible space.

This is a call for spatial audio works (8-channel max) to be considered for our 2025-26 programming. The New Ear:: SPATIAL’s system features an octophonic cube (see configuration here), permanently installed at Fridman Gallery. We are excited to feature existing work and also to work with you to develop an idea to present in our series. However, works that will be created for the cube configuration will be prioritized.

Our programming is open for two form of presentations: 20-40 minutes sets (live or fixed-media pieces) and long form compositions/installations, intended to be played for several hours. Please be sure to identify which category you are interested in. We will consider only 1 submission from a sole creator or group for each category.

Creators of any age, gender, race, and nationality are welcome to apply.

Your submission should include a Google Drive or DropBox link to the work. Stems are always appreciated, but a stereo or binaural mix is required. Please ensure your link cannot expire and that we have the required access approvals. Inaccessible links will be disregarded.

We will accept submissions until July 1, 2025.
