Abigail Levine’s Restagings

Abigail Levine’s Restagings is a series of durational performances that reread minimalist and conceptual artworks as scores for performance, unearthing the bodies, choreography, and labor embedded in visual artworks. The series restages works by an iconic cadre of 1960s artists—Sol LeWitt, Richard Serra, Carl Andre, Robert Morris, and Walter de Maria—all of whom were closely associated with dance and performance artists of their era. Through performance, the Restagings shifts our focus from the completed object to the process of its making. To date, Levine has completed three works in the series: Choreographing LeWitt (2017), Of Serra (2018), and Fall C.A. (2019).
