Thursday, May 21, 2026
169 Bowery NYC
DOORS 7:00 pm | SHOW 8:00pm
Varispeed showcases ambient and experimental sound artists in unique acoustic environments around the city. Varispeed is committed to fostering a communal, somatic approach to deep listening by creating space for artists and audiences to engage vibration as a shared physical and emotional experience. I invite you to join us for a night of durational sets that extend above and beyond the infrasonic.

Leila Bordreuil is a French-American cellist, composer and sound-artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She accesses concepts as diverse as noise, contemporary classical, free jazz, and experimental traditions but adheres to none of them. Her music mixes deep melancholia with harsh noise-walls at ear-bleeding levels, and was described by The New York Times as “steadily scathing music, favoring long and corrosive atonalities.”
Lee Ranaldo co-founded Sonic Youth in 1981, and has been active for the past 35 years recording, performing, collaborating with numerous others, producing discs, exhibiting visual art and publishing volumes of poetry and journals. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Ranaldo at number 33 on its “Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list. Both artists share a compelling interest in transcending sonic boundaries, vividly reflected in their ongoing and ever-evolving collaboration.

medium. is a NYC-based “death ambient” and hardcore project by non-binary interdisciplinary creative partners yaz lancaster & gg200bpm. They perform longform experimental compositions and ritualized improvisations utilizing unique electroacoustic instrumentation: suspended buzz saws, handmade oxygen tank bells, violin, voice(s), synthesizers, keyboards, sample(r)s, DJ controllers, and sequencers. Their live music considers tension and release; spiritual energies; and collective experiences – situated in the extremes of harsh noise and glacially-paced ambient drones. As a DJ-ing duo, medium. performs distinctive high-energy, uptempo b2b sets that coalesce gabber/NYC hardcore with Black American dance & global percussive music.
This modular set-up and versatility allows them to present work in a variety of spaces and aesthetics ranging from DIY noise shows, night clubs, community radio, and museum galleries – they’ve performed at Nowadays, Pioneer Works, New Ear Festival (Fridman Gallery), Gaudeamus Festival, The Lot Radio, Princeton University, Trans-Pecos, Night Club 101, Operator Radio, Intercomm, and Mood Ring, among other spaces.

Angel Burner is a curator, composer, and sonic sculpture focused on sub sonics. They currently curate Varispeed, a New York-based sonic performance platform dedicated to exploring the relationship between long-form auditory experiences and subsonic frequencies. Angel Burner has recently been the sound designer for Verbal Animal and Madison Wada, utilizing low frequency tranducers to engage with the somatic experience of listening and movement. They also play solo sets of live ambient remixes, delivered analogue, at various DIY venues, cafes, and galleries.
They currently are a live sound engineer having worked for venues such as Elsewhere, ISSUE Project Room, Basement NY, Knockdown Center, Artists Space, Market Hotel, Trans Pecos, Fridman Gallery, David Zwirner, Dweller Festival and as Daniel Neumann’s audio assistant

(ARGO) is the ambient musical alias of Pablo González, a New York based artist who explores the transience of sound through reverb, looping, pop deconstruction, and atmospheric audio journeys. Drawing inspiration from ambient pioneers, electronic minimalism, and the evocative qualities of film scores, ARGO’s work transcends traditional song structures, alluring listeners into immersive sound environments.
