an interactive and improvisational movement piece that explores the relationship between darkness, visibility and participation. breaking the fourth wall, the boundaries between performer and audience start to blur. the live score moves through a landscape of songs just out of reach of recognition, like the amorphous shapes that objects become without light. through movement and sound, the piece explores what we allow ourselves to do when we think no one is watching.

Sofia Gonzalez is a New York City–based dancer, choreographer, and interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of movement and music. Raised in Miami, Florida, she trained at New World School of the Arts and Miami Dance Collective before earning her BFA in Dance from New York University Tisch School of the Arts.

Sofia worked with Tony Award winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh, as Movement Assistant on Romeo + Juliet on Broadway and restaged Tayeh’s choreography for Sing Street at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre in London. Her music has drawn attention from artists including Sleepy Hallow, to which she was featured on his latest album “Read This When You Wake Up”.

She has performed works by Yara Travieso, Jessica Lang, Dwight Rhoden, Yin Yue, and Batsheva Dance Company, performed with Nathan Trice at the Detroit Institute of Arts, danced with Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, and appeared at B12 Festival in Berlin with choreographer Victor Rottier.
